Filling Your Life With Lightness

Filling Your Life With Lightness

By Mylène Grégoire, President and PCC coach at Mymosa &CO Consulting inc.

A whirlwind of responsibilities, paired with a clock that seems to tick faster and faster, can quickly brew the perfect cocktail of despair. But how can you turn things around and finally place yourself at the top of your priority list?

Imagine your life as a shopping cart. Each stroll through the aisles represents your choices. Some items you add are what you truly desire, others—less appetizing—are chosen out of obligation or practicality. Then there are the guilty pleasures, tossed in on a whim. But what if you consciously decided to fill your cart only with what truly nourishes your happiness and well-being?

Life works the same way. Taking a moment to evaluate your habits, activities, and responsibilities means asking a crucial question: Am I staying true to my values and what matters to me? It’s not just about filling your schedule but filling it with intention.

This takes courage. Sometimes, it means letting go of comfortable but unhelpful habits or shedding responsibilities that weigh you down. These decisions may feel painful, but they’re necessary. Don’t let pride steer your ship—it may eventually lead you straight into a storm.

Take inspiration from Maya, who chose to build a lighter, more intentional "life cart," filled with elements that uplift her rather than weigh her down.

Maya’s Life Cart: A Model of Balance

The "Inclusions": What Deserves a Spot at the Top

  • Quality time with my partner and children.

  • Balanced meals and restorative 7-8 hour sleep nights.

  • The simple joy of cooking.

  • Exercising and walking to reconnect with my body.

  • Building enriching relationships with inspiring colleagues.

  • Fully investing in my work while savoring the present moment.

The "Exclusions": What No Longer Belongs in My Life

  • Letting my mental hamster run endlessly.

  • Striving for an unattainable perfection.

  • Trying to please everyone all the time.

  • Carrying guilt for not doing more.

  • Overloading myself with too many new projects.

  • Relying solely on external validation for self-worth.

By adopting this approach, Maya traded the heaviness of the unnecessary for the lightness of a life aligned with her deepest aspirations. So, take charge of your life cart. Make intentional choices and watch your well-being flourish.

Remember, every choice is a brick in building the life you deserve. Be selective, be bold, and above all, be true to yourself.
